Repeated Shooting in Brickell
Brickell Residents were awakened to chaos in the early hours of Sunday, October 22, due to another shooting incident. Unfortunately, this marks the third shooting event in less than five weeks in the same vicinity, the latest at 1250 S. Miami Ave, as reported by the Miami Herald [1]. The frequency and severity of these incidents have deeply unsettled the local community.
In addition to the most recent shooting, we would like to draw attention to two other incidents that occurred five days ago [2] and on August 28 [3].
The persistent occurrence of these incidents should take precedent and swift action. We urge our City leaders to take action in the following areas:
Increase Police Presence: With the population of Brickell steadily growing, our police force has not kept pace with this expansion. We suggest recruiting officers from other states to ensure sufficient coverage and a strong presence in our community, following the example set by the Sweetwater Department.
Corner Club Compliance: We encourage an investigation into their compliance with permitted alcohol hours and weapon screening protocols. Reviewing the actions of this establishment and implementing necessary changes can enhance their safety protocols and contribute to a safer environment for the community.
Emergency Measures: We request Commissioner Covo add a discussion item to the City of Miami Meeting agenda to address the urgent need for increased police presence in our community.
We implore our city officials to take decisive action towards a safer community.
