No Safe Passage: Brickell Pedestrians Left Vulnerable by Sidewalk Closures

A sidewalk closure in Brickell has sparked safety concerns among residents, as pedestrians—including children, elderly individuals, and those with mobility challenges—are being forced into the street with no safe alternative.

The closed sidewalk, located at 14th and 14th Terrace on Brickell Avenue, is in a high-traffic area near schools, businesses, and residential buildings. Without a designated pedestrian detour, people are left navigating vehicle lanes, increasing the risk of accidents.

  • No alternative route – Pedestrians are forced into the street, creating a hazardous situation.

  • High foot traffic area – The location is frequented by students, workers, and residents, making sidewalk access essential.

  • Traffic & safety risks – The closure is near a busy intersection, heightening the potential for accidents.

  • Poor nighttime visibility – Lack of adequate lighting further increases the danger after dark.

Citizens are calling on the City of Miami to provide a safe pedestrian detour and ensure that future sidewalk closures include proper safety measures.

An official request has been made to city officials asking for an urgent review of the closure and an immediate plan to protect pedestrians. The community is awaiting a response and pushing for a solution before an accident occurs.

HOW CAN I HELP?

  • Raise awareness: Share concerns with city officials and tag them in social media posts.

  • Contact local representatives: Urge them to prioritize pedestrian safety.

With ongoing construction along Four Ambassadors and 25th Road, we must reconsider how sidewalk closures impact our residents, workers, and visitors. As construction zones shift, pedestrians are frequently left without safe pathways, forcing them into the street and creating hazardous conditions.
