My Safe Florida Condo Program Officially Launches
The Brickell Homeowners Association is pleased to share the launch of the My Safe Florida Condo Program, an initiative designed to help condominium associations protect their properties against hurricanes and potentially reduce wind insurance premiums. This pilot program, modeled after the successful My Safe Florida Home Program, offers eligible associations free inspections and grant funding for wind mitigation improvements.
Under this program, condominium associations within 15 miles of the coastline can receive a free inspection to assess current hurricane-resistant features and identify opportunities for improvement. Based on the inspection’s findings, associations can apply for mitigation grants to implement recommended upgrades, such as:
• Opening protection for exterior doors, garage doors, windows, and skylights
• Reinforcing roof-to-wall connections
• Strengthening roof-deck attachments
• Adding secondary water resistance for roofs
The program provides up to $175,000 in grants per association, with a matching requirement of $1 from the association for every $2 from the program.
Florida CFO Jimmy Patronis emphasized the importance of hurricane preparedness, stating, “Investing in the safety and security of Floridians is paramount. This pilot program is a crucial first step in helping condominium communities strengthen their storm resilience.”
Funded with $30 million allocated during the 2024 legislative session, the program is overseen by the Florida Department of Financial Services, ensuring fiscal accountability and strategic leadership.
