Please join us on Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 2-3 PM for an educational webinar focused on lessons and reflection from the Acapulco hurricane tragedy.
In the afternoon of October 24, 2023, Acapapulco was preparing for a Tropical Storm; however, in hours, the system rapidly intensified into a major hurricane. The city braced for impact as Hurricane Otis made landfall as a Category 5 hurricane with sustained winds of 165 mph in Acapulco, Mexico.
Otis's powerful winds severely damaged many of the buildings in the city. Landslides and flooding resulted from heavy rain. Communication was heavily cut off, initially leaving information about the hurricane's impact largely unknown. In the aftermath, the city had no drinking water, and many residents also lost power.
Thus, during our webinar, we will review how and why the hurricane's strength went undetected, the damages to high-rise condominiums, and the aftermath of a major hurricane.
We are honored to have renowned expert Bryan Norcross, a FOX Weather Contributor, and Hurricane Specialist, share his extensive expertise and reflect on the challenges of this specific hurricane.
Additionally, we are pleased to feature William Pyznar, Partner and Founder at The Falcon Group - Engineers and Architects, and David Riddle, Director of West Palm Beach at The Falcon Group. They will provide valuable insights into the structural integrity of high-rise condos, specifically focusing on their resilience during a Category 5 hurricane. Our discussion will extend to post-hurricane challenges, with Diana Kato and our partners at Claremont Property.
Our webinar will encourage you to stay informed and be better prepared for similar situations in the future.
