Let's Lobby for Change in HOA Insurance Premiums

Florida condominium and Homeowners Association (HOA) owners have been facing insurance premiums that have skyrocketed in recent years. In order to get relief, it is necessary to lobby legislators for change. We can contact our state representatives and urge them to take action on this pressing issue. By doing so, we can bring attention to the issue and create dialogue about the need for insurance relief in Miami. Through this process, we can ensure that our voices are heard and that our representatives are aware of the situation and its consequences. Currently, they do not have an agenda item to discuss insurance rates and the session ends the first week of May. Please take the following actions to have the best chance for the State legislature to address our concern regarding rising insurance premiums.  Let’s take the following steps:

• If you live in District 36 call Senator Ileana Garcia | 305-442-6841 & 850-487-5036 and ask her for a short-term solution to address insurance premiums. Ask her to invite Senator Boyd to lead on the Insurance issue as he is the Chairman of Senate Banking and Insurance. They both need to request the Governor to support reinsurance changes this legislative session.

• Email Senator Garcia and share your experience with rising insurance cost over the last couple of years.

• If you live in District 38 call Senator Alexis Calatayud 305-596-3002 & 850-487-5038 and ask her for a short-term solution to address insurance premiums. Ask her to invite Senator Boyd to lead on the Insurance issue as he is the Chairman of Senate Banking and Insurance. They both need to request the Governor to support reinsurance changes this legislative session.

Senator Garcia/Calatayud, we request your help in reducing the HOA Insurance Premiums cost. We have seen a drastic increase in insurance costs over the past few years and need a short-term solution. We are asking you to address Senator Boyd as the head of the Senate insurance committee to work with the experts and ask the Governor to support a reinsurance bridge that can help to decrease reinsurance costs in the next year. We know the Governor led some reinsurance changes in 2022, but we need more done to bring short-term relief. We want the State Legislature to create laws that will help reduce our insurance costs.
