BHA tackles a number of issues related to safety and quality of life. Progress or improvement was made in many areas, and many key issues remain on agenda for 2024. BHA is working closely with City, County and State representatives on these various neighborhood and community concerns.
Resiliency
Requesting the City of Miami to implement the recommendation in their Stormwater Master Plan

Baywak: Reconnect the Baywalk in areas where it has been disrupted
Aesthetics and Public Spaces
Complete Brickell Ave Improvement Plan: Ground cover or other solution for tree base areas on swales left with dirt and gravel, replacement of the swale grass: replace trees that did not establish. You can learn more about the history HERE.
Improve Brickell median and swale landscape maintenance.
Improve the system of utility markings that leaves our sidewalks, streets and public spaces littered with spray paint creating unsightly graffiti throughout the community.

Traffic & Pedestrian Safety
Add a traffic signal at Brickell Avenue and SE 14th Street.
Improve the eastbound left turn lane on 26th Road going north onto Brickell Avenue where the lane configuration needs to be changed to discourage illegal and dangerous left turns from the second lane or striped area.
Improve crosswalks throughout the district for pedestrian safety; study SE 25 Road area.
Reduce traffic disruptions caused by illegal blockages by delivery, utility and other vehicles.
Parks and Green Space
Support Simpson Park in it’s efforts to remove invasive species and maximize the parks usage by promoting it’s usage.
Oversee the timeline and project completion of 25th Road Park
Monitor maintenance of 1814 Brickell Avenue Park.
Support the continued development of The Underline. (BHA Resolution, March 4, 2015)
Continue to seek additional green space and support for the existing ecological resources in the community.
Advocate for better maintenance and program enhancements at area parks (including the addition of a new community center in Simpson Park) Organize volunteer maintenance and programming events with membership
Education in Brickell Community
Provide improved public-school options for Brickell children K-12.
Support and monitor Southside Elementary Conversion to a K-8 school. (See BHA Resolution, April 22, 2015)
Support the building of the Brickell areas new school project in more than 30 years, Mater Brickell Preparatory Academy, a K-12 charter school.
Support the speedy resolution of negotiations between MDCPS and the City of Miami’s OMNI CRA towards the creation of new public schools and seats for residents living in Brickell and Miami’s surrounding urban core.
Support the revival of the annual Brickell/Downtown Education Forum (Jan 2021)
Police Coverage of the Brickell area
Assist condominiums with police relationships
Support a patrol unit dedicated to the Brickell neighborhood
Urban Planning
Upzone in areas where it is needed
Fire Station Brickell Citi Centre, a strategically located fire station in Brickell City Centre would significantly improve emergency response times, particularly in a densely populated urban area like ours. Quick and efficient responses to fire incidents, medical emergencies, and other crises are essential for minimizing damage and saving lives.
Consider the needs of delivery drivers, ride-sharing services, cyclists, and scooter users when designing future street infrastructure.
Environmental Factors
Mitigating noise disturbances and addressing concerns related to loud vehicles, particularly boom cars, to safeguard and enhance overall quality of life.
The Marine Stadium is facing a challenge of excessive noise, lacking sufficient restrictions to protect residents affected by the disturbances.
Change Miami Campaign
Increase voter turnout through strategic partnerships and events to secure changes to the cities political landscape so that political officials and public servants are focused on and dedicated to addressing Brickell issues.
Mentor the younger generation to pick up the leadership baton.
Vertical Development
Facilitating the awareness of legislative changes among board members and property managers.
Fostering the growth of board members and property managers in leadership through the provision of courses, lunch-and-learn sessions, and a supportive community.
Providing board members with opportunities to voice their concerns and perspectives at both the local and state levels.
